What is Bunco for Breast Cancer?

2008 marks Bunco For Breast Cancer's seventh year of connecting with generous bunco groups from all over the country and asking them to donate one month's game pot to breast cancer research. After all, most bunco players are women, and most breast cancer victims are also women, so the two are a natural fit.

The idea for Bunco for Breast Cancer was started by Kerry Comstock when her friend, Mary Green, was diagnosed with breast cancer in September 1999. Their Clarendon Hills, IL, bunco group decided to donate the February 2001 pot to the fight against breast cancer. A few more bunco groups joined the cause and the event raised over $30,000. The Chicago Tribune ran a 2-page spread on this grassroots effort.

Since 2002, Breast Cancer Research Foundation has been the sole beneficiary of proceeds from Bunco For Breast Cancer events throughout the country.

Is there a fee to participate in the event?

No, WE DO NOT CHARGE AN ENTRANCE FEE OR ANY OTHER FEE to play. It is our hope that the generous women in our community will donate to the worthy cause of breast cancer research.

Is there an age requirement to participate in this event?

Our event is open to anyone age 16 or over.

Is my donation to Breast Cancer Research Foundation tax-deductible?

Yes. BCRF is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization and all donations are tax-deductible. You will receive a receipt for your records.

If I am not able to make the event and would like to make a money donation or donate a prize for the players, how would I do that?

The best way to donate if you cannot attend is to click here to reach BCRF's online donation form (please choose "Portland Bunco" under the question "Please tell us how you heard about our site.").

If you wish to write a check, please fill out the online registration form (coming soon!) and indicate that you are unable to attend but wish to donate. Then you may make out a check to BCRF and mail it to this address by August 10, 2008:
